Gran Canaria Airport Guide

La Palmas de Gran Canaria Airport was once called Gando Airport as it is is located in the eastern part of the Isle de Gran Canaria on the Bay of Gando, 19 km south of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and 25 km from the main tourist areas of San Agustin, Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas in the south.

It is easy to get to the GC-1 main north / south motorway which is about 30 minutes from the centre of Las Palmas and around 30 minutes south to Maspalomas, 40 minutes to Puerto Rico and Amadores and about an hour to Taurito and Mogan.

If offers connecting flights for passengers travelling to Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Senegal and Cape Verde in West Africa and Madeira and Açores on the shores of the Atlantic.Binter Canarias, NAYSA, Ryanair and Norwegian Air Shuttle all operate from there and during the winter season you can fly to Cape Verde and Gambia with TUIfly and TUIfly Nordic.

You can fly into Gran Canaria from UK Airports including Birmingham, Bristol, Cork, Dublin, Nottingham East Midlands, Glasgow Prestwick, Manchester, London Airports Gatwick, Luton and Stansted and Manchester with Ryanair, easyJet, AerLingus and Monarch.

The airport is a single three storey terminal split into three zones. Zone A: for European Union Flights, Zone B: International flights outside the European union and Zone C for flights to the other Canary Islands. Arrivals is on the ground floor and departures/check in is on the first floor.

There is no train service on the island, but you will find a selection of buses to nearby resorts and taxi ranks outside each of the main arrivals zones.On your return to the airport the taxi drivers will drop you off outside the relevant departures hall.

If you are going to hire a car, then it is best to pre-book as it saves time on paperwork when you arrive. You will find the desks of the main rent a car agencies in the arrivals zones after you have collected your luggage.

Las Palmas is Spain's fifth busiest airport and by far the busiest airport in the Canary Islands. In 2015 it handled 10.627.182 passengers with 74.084 flight operations.
