Girona Airport (Gerona Airport) on the Costa Brava is Spain's eighth busiest airport . If you fly into Girona Airport and need to get to Barcelona which is 103km to the North East there are bus connections from tjhe airport or it is about 1hr 20 minutes by train from Barcelona centre.
The airport is just 12km south of Girona City centre in the small village of Vilobi d'Onyar. It offers easy motorway and public transport connections to Lloret de Mar, l'Estartit and Blanes on the Costa Brava. The French border/gateway to the Pyrenees and Ski resort of Andorra is about a forty minutes drive away
In 2015 the airport handled 1.775.318 passengers with 19.527 flight operations. The budget airine Ryanair is the main operator at Girona, but recently they transferred their UK fights to Barcelona. They still fly to London Luton and Manchester but the rest of the their flights are to European destinations.
Buses connect the airport to Girona from outside arrivals with a journey time of 20-25 minutes and €2.50 single fare. Ryanair also operates a connection between Girona-Costa Brava Airport and Barcelona (Estació d'Autobusos Barcelona Nord next to Arc de Triomf) at a cost of €15 single/€25 return.
There is also a taxi rank outside arrivals with a taxi into the city centre taking approximately 15-20 minutes and costing €20-25.
There is no train link at the airport but there is a railway station in the city centre which connects to Barcelona, Tarragona, Reus and Zaragoza in one direction and to Figueres, Portbou and Cerbere in the other.
The motorways surrounding the airport are well maintained and signposted so if you do want to explore the area in your own time your best bet is to hire a car from one of the rent a car agencies located in the arrivals hall.
