The main access roads are a dual carriageway in the north west linking it to the centre of Madrid which is a 667km drive away .
The dual carriageway on the Rias Baixas links Vigo to northern Portugal, passing through Tui, Braga, Porto eventually leading to Lisbon and Portugal’s road system.
The motorway parallel to the Atlantic Ocean goes to northern Galicia via Pontevedra, Santiago and A Coruña.
Vigo is within a half hour drive of Pontevedra and an hour's drive from Porto in Portugal. It is a great base from which to explore southern Galicia and northern Portugal.
You can get the best views of the city, small bays and beaches from the motorway toll approach road which is an elevated highway running through and above most of the city.
On the outskirts is the hamlet of Boulaz which is still very representative of the Vigo of days gone by. This part of the city is easily visited by car and borders the district of Alcabre.
