Valencia's modern metro train system operates 6 lines: Line 1 (yellow): 3 (red), 4 (blue x 2), 5 (green) and 6 (mauve). They are underground railways while one of the line 4 (blue) is a light rail system running from the university to the beaches above ground parallel with the Turia River.
It covers most of the city and is such a large metro system that the city and its surroundings are divided into zones A, B, C and D with A surrounding the city centre.
Metro fares vary depending on how many zones you travel through. if you are only here for one day it is best to buy a single journey or a T-1 (which allows you unlimited access to public transport in the town centre). For a weekend stay the T-2 or T-3 are better options or for longer the Bonometro (valid for ten journeys) are cheaper than buying individual tickets.
There are special deals for families with children aged six and under travelling for free. There is also a special weekend family pass.
