Spain is a diverse and fantastic country with buzzing cities and huge unspoiled rural areas. It's a fabulous country to drive through and you can tour on some of the roads and not see another car for quite a while.
The trains in Spain are fast, efficient and relatively cheap. But their network is not great with many areas poorly served, but this slowly improving with new routes being introduced all the time.
When planning your journey do not assume that travelling by train will always be quicker or cheaper. Having said that, a long distance train in Spain can be half the price of a similar journey in France or Germany.
Rail travel in Spain offers AVE high speed trains. For example the AVE service on the Madrid-Cordoba-Seville route can get you to/from Madrid and Seville in just 2.5 hours.
You can now Book AVE Tickets online and in English thanks to a new initiative between RENFE (Spanish Rail) and Rail Europe who operate the sale of European rail passes.
