Malaga Airport Transport

Buses, Trains, Taxis, Private Transfers & Car Hire

if you are thinking of booking your flight and accommodation separately it is important to work out how you are going to get to the pace you are staying from the airport.

Malaga Airport has all the transport options available with buses and trains, a taxi rank, private transfer companies operating from there and the choice of a number of car hire firms.

We have lived on the Costa del Sol for a number of years and regularly use Malaga Airport so have given you a few tips to help you decide which is the best method of transfer for you.

Car Hire

The bus service is fine if you are staying along the coast but if you are inland it is virtually non existent and with a tran service which only runs as far as Fuengirola, hiring a car is the best option to get around. 

It often works out to be the cheapest option and gives you the opportunity to go out whenever you want and find some undiscovered beaches and unspoiled villages.

You can book your car in advance and order any extras like baby seats or child restraints when you make the reservation.  Prebooking often gets you the best deal and cuts out most of the paperwork when you land as you just need to present your driving licence and credit card used to make the booking to pick up the vehicle.

Private Transfers

With Spanish taxi drivers only being licensed to carry a maximum of 4 passengers, if there are a number of you travelling (more than 4), have a lot of luggage or sports equipment and with a family a private transfer is the best option as they can provide vehicles of all shapes and sizes.

You can book and pay in advance, booking your return pick at the same time you want to. You provide your flight details so the driver can track your flight and be ready and waiting for you in the arrivals hall. This is the only way to travel during the summer months as standing in bus queues and taxi ranks in the heat is not recommended.

Taxis

The taxis Malaga Airport are metered, but if you are unsure of how much your journey will cost it is always worth asking them for a veral quote before you set off.

Most of the taxis can only carry up to a maximum of four passengers (including children) and do not carry baby seats or child restraints so you will be asked to carry the infant on your lap in the back seat.

Buses

You have choice of several which stop outside the arrivals hall at the Terminal 3.

You can go into the bus terminal in Malaga City centre (conveniently next to the main Maria Zambrano railway station) and in the other direction there is fast non stop coach which goes into the bus station in Marbella which is a few minutes away by taxi from the town centre.

Malaga to Santa Amalia: Alhaurin de la Torre bus stops outside the terminal for cargo and two new routes now operate from Malaga Airport to the historic cities of Granada and Sevilla.

If you want to get to places which are further along the coast heading towards Gibraltar you can to catch either a bus or train from the airport into the bus station in Malaga or catch the airport bus into Marbella and make connections from there.

Trains

The new underground station is in Terminal 3 with frequent trains into the Malaga main station which connects to places like Madrid and Seville.  

To the west there is a local train which stops at Fuengirola, Benalmadena and Torremolinos. The journey time to the end of the line is about 35-40 minutes.

There is no train service to resorts along the coast past Fuengoirola.
