Car Hire

There are five main companies who offer car hire based within the terminal. If you are going to be exploring Andalucia and leaving Spain from a different airport, it may well be possible to rent the car from Granada and return it to your departure point.

If you hire a car from the airport then to get to Granada go directly to the A-92. Granada Airport is 17 kilometres from the city and takesabout 10-15 minutes by car if you are going to the north and 5 minutes more if going south on the A44 / E902.

Driving in Granada

It is essential to hire a car if you want to get to places like the Sierra Nevada for some winter sports, but if you are staying in Granada itself be warned that the centre is a maze of narrow, one-way streets and is restricted to buses, taxis, scooters and people staying in hotels there. This regulation is enforced by traffic cameras that will take a photo of your licence plate and the local police will issue fines.

Outside the historic centre the streets are wider and travelling by car is much easier. Motorways leading up to the Sierra Nevada and down to Malaga are easy to navigate.

Free parking is very hard to find in the city centre with a number of areas restricted to private traffic.

The best option is therefore to leave your vehicle in a public car park which can be found at The Alhambra: La Caleta (near to the train station and bullring): Escolapios (near to Paseo del Salon, Puerta Real and El Corte Ingles): Paseo del Violon (next to Genil River).
