You can find the offices/desks for car rental in the arrivals area and hall connecting hall arrivals and departures.

Once you have signed off the agreement and got your keys leave the terminal building and head right towards the bus stops where the road goes round and leads you to the car park where the car hire desks are to take collection of your rent a car.

From here you simply head for the exit where you will see a roundabout with directions off the first exit to the right. All of the roads are signposted withdirections to the national roads and AP-7 toll road.

When you are leaving Girona and want to drop off your hire car just follow the return signs which go round to the front of the terminal and into the relevant section of the P0 and P1 car park.

Driving in Girona

Girona occupies a prime central position with the main A-7 toll road running from the airport to the French border in the north and the Costa del Sol coast in the south. Because there are so many nearby resorts, hiring a car is your best option for getting around this area. For example, Lloret de Mar is about a 30 minute drive: Platja d`Ora is just under an hour; Barcelona is just over an hour and the capital Madrid is about eight and a half hours away.

Even though the City of Girona city is smaller and less busy than than Barcelona, still try and avoid driving during the rush hours.You are far better off parking somewhere, which is not easy unless you pay and go into one of the many underground spaces.

The best place to leave your car is in an underground car park as locals seem to prefer driving around and around looking for a free parking space. You could leave your car behind the Parc de la Devesa or on the road which runs adjacent to the river Ter right up to the Auditori de Congressos with the old town just a ten minute walk away.
